PYHO: ADD in Adults?

Have you ever heard of ADD in adults?  Do you think it's very common?  I SERIOUSLY think I have it, and it seems like it's getting worse the older I get.  I've never been diagnosed, but I feel like I've always had some form of it, even when I was a kid.  I can't focus on anything for more than 10 or 15 minutes at a time.  Even if we're watching a movie, I can't just watch the movie; I'm reading a book, playing/working on the computer, playing a game.  I can't just sit still and watch the movie.

It seems like the older I get, the worse I get.  It's VERY frustrating.  I feel like my mind is going in 10 different directions all at the same time, but I'm not getting anything accomplished.  I will start working on something, and I'll only last for about 10 or 15 minutes and then I have to move on to something else.

I don't know what to do.  I don't know if I CAN do anything.  But I do know that I'm tired of dealing with it.  I'm tired of my mind racing in 10 different directions at the same time.  I'm tired of not getting things accomplished because I can't stay focused long enough.  I'm just tired.

One way to tell if it's ADD is caffeine. Do high doses of caffeine help you to set down and do things?

You can also talk to your doctor. I have trouble concentrating and getting things done too. I figure in my case is senility coming. ; )

My husband was just diagnosed with ADD among some other problems. It is well worth checking out. His psychiatrist said that the disorder can be disabling. I always thought it was a childhood problem that could be grown out of or learned to control. Wow, are we learning differently! The caffeine thing, I'm sorry to say, is not a reliable measure of it you are having trouble with ADD. Only a doctor can diagnose the problem. It IS biological, not behavioral! I would highly recommend getting a good referral for someone in your area. Family docs may be a good start, but I'm not sure they are really trained to recognize the problem.

I would talk to your doctor.

I don't think it was as commonly diagnosed back when we were kids.

I have a girlfriend who was just diagnosed. I agree with Shell. Talk to your Dr., and then talk to one more. A second opinion is always a must!

I'm sorry to hear you're going through this. See a doctor, that's the best thing to do. Good luck, I hope you find some answers soon.
